Our History
2014
HeyTutor founded an online marketplace to match consumers with tutors. HeyTutor fine-tuned its approach to sourcing qualified tutor candidates across the country to teach students in a variety of subjects.
2020
The COVID-19 pandemic led to widespread school closures across the country. As students began to return to classrooms in 2020 - 2021, school district leaders sought assistance to address the learning gaps that distance learning had exacerbated. School districts aware of HeyTutor’s ability to source qualified tutors began to contact HeyTutor to request its assistance directly in school districts.
2021
Growing exponentially from one school year to the next, the company raised Venture Capital from its growth partner, ScOp VC, to accelerate from hundreds to thousands of students served. Experienced executives Jennifer Sheffield (CEO), David Siegle (CTO), and Deven Bhattacharya (COO) join HeyTutor to chart its course of growth.
2022
HeyTutor continues to answer the call nationwide to provide qualified tutors in classrooms across the country, growing its workforce to over 2,000 tutors nationwide. In one school district, HeyTutor deployed over 900 tutors to serve 5,000 students over the course of a single school year, exceeding alternative intervention methods in Math and ELA.
2024
After investing millions of dollars, years of development, and thousands of seasoned educators’ time developing a robust data infrastructure to track student performance in HeyTutor’s in-person tutoring sessions, HeyTutor received Stanford University’s National Student Support Accelerator’s (NSSA) Program Design Badge. The NSSA Program Design badge represents a three-year stamp of approval for the rigor behind HeyTutor’s program design, including its highly consultative approach to building in-person tutoring intervention services that demonstrably advance student achievement.
2026
HeyTutor leads the nation as the largest, in-person technologically-enabled tutoring partner at scale across the country. HeyTutor continues to expand partnerships in over a dozen states, hundreds of schools, and serving thousands of students. HeyTutor bridges technological innovation (i.e., artificial intelligence) with its decade of experience recruiting, training and tutoring K-12 students across the country.

Through HeyTutor’s workforce of over 1,000 tutors nationwide, a proprietary curriculum, and a robust reporting dashboard, we implement comprehensive tutoring programs that reduce learning losses, accelerate proficiency gains, and measure impact to encourage data-driven decision making.
