Florida Tutoring Advantage
Launched through legislation passed in 2024, HB 1361 created a new statewide initiative focused on boosting achievement in reading and math for K–5 public school students called the Florida Tutoring Advantage (FTA). The program is supported by state appropriations and administered by the University of Florida’s Lastinger Center, the program empowers districts and schools to launch or expand high-impact tutoring—whether in-person, virtual, or through approved digital tools.
Formalizing Tutoring Across Florida
The New Worlds Tutoring Program establishes a formalized set of guidelines to which schools must adhere when implementing resources for student success:
- Forms science-based reading guidelines
- Ensures math tutoring follows state standards
- Sets baseline standards for tutoring sessions
- Provides access to evidence-based tutoring software during school hours
- Grants funds for in-person tutoring
- Mandates technical support and professional learning for reading and math so that school districts can follow best practices
